The Preparatory Committee of SIDS4 Approves the SIDS4 Conference Outcome Document

The Maldives and New Zealand today co-chaired the Second Session of the Preparatory Committee of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4). The meeting approved the outcome document of the SIDS4 conference, which was approved by consensus, and was recommended for adoption at the SIDS4 Conference, to be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 27 – 31 May 2024.

The outcome document was negotiated by Member of States across two sessions of the Preparatory Committee, and three intersessional meetings of the Preparatory Committee. The ABAS will replace the SAMOA Pathway as the new programme of action for SIDS, and will act as the new blueprint for the development of SIDS.

The Preparatory Committee was co-chaired by H.E. Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Ambassador, Maldives Mission to the UN, and H.E. Ms. Carolyn Schwalger, Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the UN.
